Land Conservation

Smart approaches to community development will often include situations where land conservation plays a central role for quality of life and vibrancy of communities. PCLB makes grants to land conservation organizations that preserve open space and promote smart growth in New York’s Hudson Valley region, and to a more limited extent in Connecticut. PCLB supports land conservation organizations that have considerable expertise and capacity; work collaboratively with partners to preserve, connect, and manage open space and productive farmland; practice smart approaches to community development; or help build a stronger land conservation community through advocacy and training.

Building Enduring Land Trusts
PCLB’s new grant opportunity encourages and supports mergers of land trusts in Connecticut. Grants will be available to qualifying land trusts to advance the merger process. Awards may be used to cover costs such as consulting and legal fees, accounting needs, and other costs associated with completing a merger. This program includes significant multi-year, general operating support to successfully merged organizations.

To begin the application process, eligible applicants should submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) to PCLB by May 27, 2020.

Additional information on guidelines and LOI requirements are available at this link.
