Goal: Fill gaps in health care infrastructure.

People live longer, healthier lives when they have access to quality medical care. Yet, for reasons from system shortcomings to crises, emergencies, and civil conflict, essential health care is not consistently or equitably available to all. Specific interventions and projects can help to fill these critical gaps, thereby improving access to basic medical services and more advanced health care in the US and around the world, and ultimately improving the quality of people’s lives.

To fill gaps in health care infrastructure, we support and partner with organizations working on Rural Health Care and Global Access to Medical Care.

Rural Health Care: PCLB is currently engaged in a discovery process to understand the greatest areas of challenge and opportunity in providing health care in rural settings. This has led to early grant-making around health care workforce in Maine, supporting training programs and new models of care that seek to ensure we have the medical professionals we most need, in the places we most need them. We expect this grant-making to evolve further – so stay tuned for more information.

Global Access to Medical Care: Make targeted grant investments to provide access to critical medical care globally, especially in places historically least likely to have strong health care infrastructure. PCLB currently supports a limited number of grantees in this work.
